As part of National Crime Reading Month Wigan Library will be holding a talk on ‘The Button Pit Murder’ by Marianne Howell. The talk looks at the story of how a family man’s ordinary night at work turned into a crime that shocked the community. The 19th century murder of Wigan Pit worker James Barton was ‘a murder most gross, foul and unnatural’. Marianne Howell is the chair of the Lancashire Local History Fedeartion.
